Press Release -
Feb 2010 - Day Care at Hospice to partially reopen
|
|
In October 2009 due to the economic downturn Sam
Beare Hospice very reluctantly took the steps of
suspending day care facilities at the Hospice. It
was the only immediate way of safeguarding all other
services while an Emergency Appeal
was launched to help secure the future of Sam Beare
Hospice. |
|
They called on the
generosity of those who
have always kept them
going: the community –
and as ever people have
responded in such a
positive way and have
done so many wonderful
things – held coffee
mornings, donated
birthday money, put
coins in collecting tins
or thought of different
ways to get sponsored. |
Due
to everyone’s inspiring
efforts and generosity,
they have nearly reached
their incredibly
ambitious £300,000
target for the first
quarter of the Emergency
Appeal. The good
news is that, for now,
no other services are in
immediate danger of
being cut and due to
this community support
the Day Care Unit at the
Hospice will reopen from
Spring 2010, but only
for one day a week.
Chris Flemington, Chief
Executive said |
|
“We are pleased that
phase one of the Appeal
has gone so well and
that we can start to
push on with the crucial
second phase which will
require even more
effort. Until we have
reinstated every day of
our Day Care service and
safeguarded our future,
there remains an
emergency. I am hopeful
we shall succeed as so
many people are now
aware that they have a
Hospice in the heart of
the community of which
they can be proud.” |
|
To keep fundraising at
the forefront of
people’s minds, the
Hospice is launching the
Sam Beare
Hospice Fundraising Ball on the 8th May 2010 at
Mercedes Benz World, Weybridge. Max Clifford, patron
of the Hospice will be in attendance and there will
be an opportunity to support the Hospice and raise
funds while enjoying a full night’s entertainment of
dancing, gaming tables, luxury tombola, auction and
raffle. |
