Crockford Bridge Farm Honey

Honey

When available: Spring to Winter

Honey is a plant based product that is produced by bees collecting pollen from the flowering crops on the farm. Please be aware that our supply of honey does start to dwindle towards the end of Winter.

Our working bee hives deep in Honey Hollow are home to thousands of busy bees. As soon as the first spring blossoms appear, the bees get to work collecting pollen to bring back to Queen Bee.

Why we keep bees

Bees are natural pollinators that are an essential part of our food chain. On the farm, bees fulfil the vitally important job of pollinating our flowering crops to ensure a plentiful harvest. Without our busy bees there simply wouldn't be any crops!

The most glorious by-product of our bees hard work is Crockford Bridge Honey. Which is available to buy from the farm.

Honey Facts

  • Honey has antibacterial properties and has been used medicinally for thousands of years.
  • An adult worker bee's lifespan is about 45 days during the summer months.
  • Male bees are called 'Drones' and they do not have stingers. Their main purpose is to mate with the Queen.
  • Honey bees actually dance when they return to the Hive to tell other bees where the flowers are (this is known as the Waggle Dance)

The Bee House

In additional to our normal working hives in Honey Hollow, we have built a glass sided observation hive where you can watch our bees in action.

The Beehouse provides a unique opportunity to watch the internal workings of a beehive and keep an eye on our bees as they fly in and out gathering pollen. If you keep your eyes peeled, you may catch a glimpse of Queen Bee.
